The Volvo Cars Wind Tunnel, test of a Volvo C30
Testing aerodynamics - 8,2 meter diameter, 5 Megawatt fan capable of creating wind speeds of up to 250km/h in the Volvo Cars Wind Tunnel. Volvo C30 1.6D DRIVe in Volvo Cars Wind Tunnel. The wheels and tires are supported by rotating flat steel belts. The airflow around and under the car is improved by the DRIVe's aerodynamic wheels and underbody, helping to reduce the aerodynamic drag by more than 10%. The test car's wheels rotate and the ground underneath the car moves to exactly replicate the real world condition. Here the car is angled at 30 degrees to the wind direction.
