Autonomous drive technology – trifocal camera
As a part of the autonomous driving project Drive Me, Volvo Cars is presenting a unique, complete system solution that makes it possible to integrate self-driving cars in real traffic – with ordinary people in the driver’s seat. The new trifocal camera, placed in the upper part of the windscreen, is three cameras in one, providing a broad 140 view, a 45 view and a long-range narrow, 34 view for improved depth perception and distant-object detection. The camera can spot suddenly appearing pedestrians or other unexpected road hazards. The image illustrates functionality of technologies that are being developed and tested by Volvo Cars. The technology is currently not available in any Volvo cars.
