Autonomous drive technology – ultrasonic sensor
As a part of the autonomous driving project Drive Me, Volvo Cars is presenting a unique, complete system solution that makes it possible to integrate self-driving cars in real traffic – with ordinary people in the driver’s seat. Twelve ultrasonic sensors around the car are used to identify objects close to the vehicle and support autonomous drive in low speeds. A typical example of when this technology is useful is to detect unexpected situations, such as pedestrians, or hazards on the road close to the car. The image illustrates functionality of technologies that are being developed and tested by Volvo Cars. The technology is currently not available in any Volvo cars.
