Autonomous drive technology – surround radar
As a part of the autonomous driving project Drive Me, Volvo Cars is presenting a unique, complete system solution that makes it possible to integrate self-driving cars in real traffic – with ordinary people in the driver’s seat. Mid-range radars located behind the bumper skin (one in every corner of the car) are able to locate objects in all directions. By transmitting waves and analyse the reflected signals from signs, poles, and tunnels they monitor a full 360 degrees around the car. The image illustrates functionality of technologies that are being developed and tested by Volvo Cars. The technology is currently not available in any Volvo cars.
