As a part of the autonomous driving project Drive Me, Volvo Cars is presenting a unique, complete system solution that makes it possible to integrate self-driving cars in real traffic – with ordinary people in the driver’s seat.
This combined 76 GHz frequency modulated, continuous wave radar and camera is placed in the windscreen. The software is further developed for autonomous driving, e.g. when it comes to image processing. This system reads traffic signs, the road’s curvature and can detect objects on the road, such as other road users.
The image illustrates functionality of technologies that are being developed and tested by Volvo Cars. The technology is currently not available in any Volvo cars.
