Volvo sales results for August

For immediate release

TORONTO, Sept. 3, 2002 -- Volvo Cars of Canada Ltd. reported August sales of 744 units, down from the hectic pace established in the same month last year.

Sales for the first eight months of the year totaled 6,551, off slightly from the 6,568 sold during the same period of 2001. August 2002 sales were down 26.6 per cent from the 1,014 vehicles sold in August, 2001 - the second best August in the company's history - and on par with August, 2000.

Both the sporty S60 sedan and the rugged V70 XC (Cross Country) posted year-over-year gains and consolidated their strong positions in their market segments, said Volvo Cars of Canada president Paul Cummings. The August results were a result of good retail sales and slower fleet sales, Cummings said.

Volvo Cars of Canada is part of the Volvo Car Corporation of Göteborg, Sweden. The company provides marketing, sales, parts, service, technology and training support to the 43 Volvo automobile retailers across the country. The 2002 Volvo vehicle line includes the flagship S80 luxury sedan, versatile V70 wagon and rugged V70 XC (Cross Country), exotic C70 coupe and convertible, the sporty S60 sedan and compact S40 and V40 models.
