TORONTO - Sales of Volvo vehicles in May totaled 1,014 units, ahead of the red hot sales pace of 1,007 vehicles sold during May, 2001, Volvo Cars of Canada Ltd. has announced.

The year-to-date sales total of 3,989 units for the first five months of 2002 represents an increase of 11 per cent over the 3,602 units sold in the same period of last year.

"Continued favourable interest rates, timely promotional offers and a balanced inventory all contributed to the success of the month," noted Paul Cummings, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars of Canada. "Strong sales of pre-owned cars also helped dealers," said Cummings.

Volvo Cars of Canada is part of the Volvo Car Corporation of Göteborg, Sweden. The company provides marketing, sales, parts, service, technology and training support to the 42 Volvo automobile retailers across the country. The 2002 Volvo automobile line includes the flagship S80 luxury sedan, versatile V70 wagon and rugged Cross Country, exotic C70 coupe and convertible, the sporty S60 sedan and compact S40 and V40 models.
