March Volvo sales march ahead 13.5 per cent

For immediate release

The market momentum gained late last year continued to drive new vehicle sales for Volvo retailers in March as the company recorded sales of 856 units for the month, a 13.5 per cent increase over the 754 units sold in the same month last year and the best March since 1983, Volvo Cars of Canada Ltd. reported.

The momentum contributed to a first quarter sales total of 1,945 new vehicles, a 10.2 per cent increase in sales in 2002 vs the same period of 2001 (1,764 units).

The March sales success was powered by the increasing popularity of the sporty S60 and rugged Cross Country models which continue to generate consumer interest and showroom traffic, said Volvo Cars of Canada president Paul Cummings.

"Of particular interest is the strength of the new S60 AWD, which currently represents one third of our growing S60 volume," said Cummings. "The timing and strategy of our initiative in the market for all-wheel-drive vehicles is clearly starting to have a positive effect at retail."

Volvo Cars of Canada is part of the Volvo Car Corporation of Göteborg, Sweden.
