For immediate release

Volvo Car Corporation's Safety Concept Car (SCC) has been awarded "Concept Car of the Year" by the American publication, Automotive News. The award was presented to Volvo Cars CEO, Hans-Olov Olsson on January 9 at The Detroit Auto Show.

The SCC, which was designed to optimize every driver's vision and explore new concepts in active safety, was in fierce competition with several other exciting concept cars for this year's title.

The SCC's innovative technology was also acknowledged last year, with the British Prince Michael Road Safety Award and with an annual design award from the British motoring weekly, Autocar.

The Volvo Safety Concept Car will become part of the Smithsonian Institute's permanent collection in Washington, D.C.
