Knock Down Operations, abbreviated KDO, is a unit organized within Volvo Car Manufacturing.

 

KDO's main tasks are the following:

  • Manufacturing Engineering for VCC owned and Contract Assembly KD Plants.
  • Packing and Supply of components.

 

At this stage (April 2000) the factories in Malaysia, Thailand and South Africa are in operation.

 

Decision is taken not to continue production in the Philippines and Indonesia.

 

KDO is located in three places:

  • Gothenburg (in the TH-building within the Torslanda Plant area) - Management and Staff functions. Manufacturing Engineering X70 and P2X.
  • Born, NL (in the VCC office within the NedCar Plant area) - Manufacturing Engineering X40
  • Maastricht, NL - Logistics Operations (Packing and Materials Supply).

 

Number of kits packed during 1999 (including all markets) 2520 vs. budget 5112.

 

Forecast (Prog 5/00) for 2000 is 5016 vs. budget 4087 kits

 

The total workforce (April -00) is, for white collar 68 and for blue collar 73.
