Volvo announces July sales results

TORONTO (August 4, 2009) - Volvo Cars of Canada Corp. today announced vehicle sales reached 591 units in July, a 39.4 percent increase over the same month last year. July marked the second straight month and the third time this year for sales increases year-over-year. The company posted a year-over-year gain in March, 2009.

Year-to-date, Volvo Canada sold 4,018 units, off 6.9 percent from the first seven months of 2008.

"Buoyed by the interest in the new XC60, the company's XC-range of vehicles performed very well last month," said Jeff Pugliese, President and CEO of Volvo Canada. "Our XC-range has consistently proved to be popular with Canadians and July was another example of that. Success was also seen with the C30 and S40 as special promotions help Volvo retailers close-out the 2009 model year and make preparations for the launch of 2010."

Pugliese also added the company is celebrating its 50th anniversary in Canada. "Volvo Canada was founded July 21, 1959 and retailers across the country are recognizing the company's substantial innovations - from three-point seatbelts and three-way catalytic converters with oxygen sensors to dual-stage booster cushions and City Safety automatic braking - introduced to the automotive industry. Volvo is a strong brand with a rich heritage and more than 350,000 Volvo vehicles have found homes in this country."
