For immediate release

February sales of 667 new vehicles edged slightly ahead of the pace of the same month of 2003, Volvo Cars of Canada Ltd. reported.

The February, 2004 results were 0.5 per cent ahead of the 664 units sold last February, bringing the total sales for this year to 1,240 units, 1.0 per cent above the 1,220 units in the first two months of 2003.

Last year was the best year for Volvo Canada in the past 29 and marked the third year of double-digit growth for the company.

Sales of S60, V70 and XC70 models all gained momentum from January and vehicles equipped with all-wheel drive were particularly popular, accounting for more than half of the total volume.

"We were delighted to see the new S80 AWD get a good response in the market, and the continued popularity of XC70 and the rest of the AWD vehicles indicates that all-wheel drive has become a real factor in the market in Canada," said Paul Cummings, president and chief executive officer of Volvo Canada.

Volvo Cars of Canada is part of the Volvo Car Corporation of Göteborg, Sweden. The company provides marketing, sales, parts, service, technology and training support to the 43 Volvo automobile retailers across the country. The 2004 Volvo vehicle line includes the flagship S80 luxury sedan, versatile V70 wagon and rugged XC70, exotic C70 convertible, the sporty S60 sedan, compact S40 and V40, and the award-winning Volvo XC90 sport utility vehicle, described as "the next generation SUV."
