TORONTO, January 3, 2003 - December sales of Volvo cars slightly out-paced year ago levels to help deliver a 2.2 per cent increase in total sales for 2002, Volvo Cars of Canada Ltd. reported.
Volvo Canada recorded December sales of 558 units to bring the full calendar year total to 9,442 units, up 2.2 per cent from the 9,237 units sold in calendar 2001. In December, 2001, the company sold 545 units.
Sales momentum carried through the entire 2002 calendar year and will help propel Volvo Canada to a strong start in 2003, president Paul Cummings predicted.
"The popularity of our all-wheel-drive models, the strong performance of our retail network and the terrific start for XC90 sales made 2002 an excellent year for Volvo in Canada," Cummings said. "We look forward to 2003 with real optimism."
Volvo Cars of Canada is part of the Volvo Car Corporation of Göteborg, Sweden. The company provides marketing, sales, parts, service, technology and training support to the 43 Volvo automobile retailers across the country.
