Prince Carl Philip has claimed the championship lead for Polestar Cyan Racing following a victorious Swedish GT season opener at Knutstorp in Sweden. The final result was one victory and a double podium finish.
Thed Björk and Prince Carl Philip won the first race of the weekend in treacherous conditions on Friday, followed up by a hard-fought second place in the final race today that Prince Carl Philip drove alone.
”I had a technical issue in the second race and had to fight so hard to stay in front. I couldn’t do anything about race-winnner Larsson, but I am still pleased to secure second keeping in mind the issued we had. I am very happy with the weekend in total and to head from here in the championship lead. This promises well for the coming season,” said Prince Carl Philip.
The duo of Thed Björk, who won the FIA WTCC race at Monza last weekend, and Prince Carl Philip fought hard against a Swedish GT field of Ferrari, Porsche, Audi and McLaren drivers at Knutstorp, heading the championship by five points.
“A good first weekend. The team and drivers delivered according to the objectives. We are very happy to leave a circuit for the second weekend in a row leading a championship,” said Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Head of Motorsport at Polestar.
The next Swedish GT race takes place at Falkenberg, the fastest circuit in Sweden, on July 8-9th.
