Revenge and weights on the table as STCC resumes

The Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC) is back after the summer break this weekend at Karlskoga and Polestar Cyan Racing drivers Richard Göransson and Robert Dahlgren have weights and revenge on their table.

Four-time STCC champion Göransson had a perfect weekend in the last race at Falkenberg with pole position, double victory and a massive 75 points to claim the championship lead.

”It’s great to be back racing again on my home circuit Karlskoga. We had an awesome weekend in Falkenberg and while that means I will carry maximum penalty weight for this race, I am just going to get on with it and do a solid weekend. I am not ruling out a victory from one of the races,” said Richard Göransson.

Team mate Dahlgren had an opposite weekend to Göransson in Falkenberg where he was forced to retire from both races and dropped to second place in the championship.

”I am going for revenge this weekend and my goal is to use the frustration and disappointment from Falkenberg to get a great weekend at Karlskoga with as many points as possible. I’ve been longing all summer to get back racing in Sweden again,” said Robert Dahlgren.

Prince Carl Philip secured his so far best result of the season in the last race with fourth position and is hoping to claim even more points this weekend.

”I have had many good results at Karlskoga in the past and I hope that we get a weekend with plenty of points. I can’t wait for the race weekend to start,” said Prince Carl Philip.

There are three race weekends left of the 2016 STCC season and Göransson’s lead is 47 points over team-mate Dahlgren. But new for this year is that the regulations require for each driver to remove the points of one race weekend. As it currently stands, Dahlgren would be only 25 points behind Göransson with the reduction of their worst weekend so far.

”The STCC race at Karlskoga is always special with a rich history behind it and things are really close within our own team. The new rules means that the point-gap isn’t as big as it looks and Göransson will have more weight than Dahlgren, meaning that we have an exciting weekend ahead of us,” said Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Head of Motorsport at Polestar.
