Volvo V40 Cross Country - model year 2015
The Volvo V40 Cross Country, featuring a unique blend of ruggedness and expressive elegance, is now also available with the new four-cylinder, two-litre Drive-E powertrains. The Drive-E powertrains offer a world-class blend of drivability and low CO2 emissions. The CO2 emissions of the 190 hp V40 Cross Country D4 with manual gearbox are down to 104 g/km. The Volvo V40 Cross Country also gets the new connected infotainment system Sensus Connect and can be specified with the improved top-of-the-line Premium Sound system by Harman Kardon.
The driver rides 40 mm higher in the V40 Cross Country than in the standard V40. This capable impression is enhanced by a number of unique Cross Country details, including wheels up to 19-inches in diameter, a front with dark, contrasting bumper, honeycomb mesh grille and upright DRL-lights and the contrasting rear bumper with integrated skid plate.
Yet, the five-door, five-seat premium all-roader features refined off-road inspired details such as the anodized, black high-gloss frame around the greenhouse, the black rear-view mirror housings and the sleek rails floating over the roof.
The V40 portfolio includes three new exterior colours (Osmium Grey, Ocean Blue II and Power Blue) as well as the new 19-inch grey diamond cut Damara wheel.
Copper and brown theme
Inside, the Raw Copper exterior colour alternative is echoed in the contrasting stitching - and it can be emphasised even further by choosing the Copper Dawn centre stack inlay. The leather upholstery comes in five different versions, including the Espresso Brown accent colour.
Designed around people
The interior of the Cross Country is designed with a strong emphasis on ergonomics, comfort and an engaging driving experience.
The wide instrument panel, together with the fluidity of the door design, creates a spacious, "large-car" feeling. The interior is designed to offer the driver and passengers a spacious and relaxing atmosphere with a true Scandinavian flavour.
Adaptive digital display
The V40 Cross Country is available with a fully graphic instrument cluster that expresses emotional functionality, always displaying the most important information in any given situation right in front of the driver. The driver can choose between three graphic themes: Elegance, Eco and Performance.
New infotainment experience – Sensus Connect (geographical restrictions may apply)
The Digital Display theme colours are also echoed in the connected infotainment system Sensus Connect, which is now introduced in the V40 Cross Country. It features a refreshed user interface with a number of innovative functions offering customers a fully connected experience.
The cloud-based services allow the driver to find and pay for parking from the car, discover new restaurants at the destination, stream favourite music seamlessly and much more. The driver can also have text messages read out aloud without taking hands off the wheel.
The brand new app Connected Service Booking is only the first step in making the dealer workshop fully integrated into the digital eco-system. The car will not only tell the driver when it’s time to visit the garage but also suggest an appointment at the Volvo dealership.
Improved Premium Sound system
The Sensus family also includes an improved top-of-the-line Premium Sound system with a 5x130W amplifier with the next-generation sound enhancement software Dirac Live and up to 12 loudspeakers, including a new long-throw woofer for enhanced bass, new soft dome tweeters for soft highs and new, larger mid-range centre and door speakers.
With the new Premium Sound system by Harman Kardon the driver can enjoy an immersive sound stage with improved bass performance, while being able to turn up the volume with full audio clarity.
Versatility for open-ended adventures
The V40 Cross Country offers thrill-seeking customers the right versatility to bring both friends and gear along on an open-ended adventure. The two-piece, 40/60, rear seat backrest can be easily folded.
VOLVO OCEAN RACE EDITION
The V40 Cross Country is also available in a sailing-inspired Volvo Ocean Race Edition. The model is available in four colours – Ocean Blue II (new colour), Bright Silver, Black Sapphire and Crystal White and features the unique seven-spoke, 17-inch ‘Portunus’ wheel.
The Volvo Ocean Race identification is displayed on the tread plates and front fenders as well as in the start-up sequence on the Infotainment screen. The interior features black or blond leather upholstery with orange stitching and the Volvo Ocean Race logo in orange. The stitching is echoed on the door panels and floor mats, which also have a special rubber tag attached. There is also a unique deco inlay.
CHASSIS & POWER TRAINS
All Wheel Drive enhances capability
The V40 Cross Country features class-leading driving dynamics with All Wheel Drive available on the T5 version to enhance the all-road, all-weather capability.
The five-cylinder 2.5-litre T5 engine has a power output of 254 hp and 360 Nm of torque. It comes with automatic transmission and acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 6.4 seconds. Fuel consumption is 8.3 l/100 km (EU Combined).
The T5 AWD is also available in a 2.0-litre, version with 213 hp and 300 Nm of torque on certain markets.
There is also the T4, a 1.6-litre GTDi engine with 180 horsepower and maximum torque of 240 Nm. Fuel consumption is 5.5 l/100 km with the manual gearbox and 6.1 l/100 km with the automatic. This corresponds to CO2 emissions of 129 g/km (man) & 143 g/km (aut). A 2.0-litre five-cylinder T4 engine with 180 hp and 300 Nm of torque is available on certain markets.
Smooth Powershift transmission
The T5 version comes with a six-speed automatic gearbox, while the T4 is available in combination with the automatic six-speed Powershift transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox. Powershift operates in principle as two parallel manual gearboxes with separate clutches, a system that provides quick and fuel-saving gear changes.
Diesel with ground-breaking i-Art technology
The new D4 Drive-E turbo diesel comes with 190 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Fuel consumption in a V40 Cross Country with a manual gearbox is down to 4.0 l/100 km (EU Combined), which corresponds to CO2 emissions of 104 g/km.
The engine features world-first i-ART technology with pressure feedback from each fuel injector instead of using a traditional single pressure sensor in the common rail.
Each injector has an intelligent chip on top of it that monitors injection pressure. Using this information, the self-adapting i-ART system makes sure that the ideal amount of fuel is injected during each combustion cycle.
The combination of injection pressure at 2,500 bar and i-ART technology gives the customer an engine with high performance, improved fuel economy and considerably lower emissions.
The diesel also features refinements such as a state-of-the-art twin-turbo, reduced friction and a smart valve solution on the cooling system for a more rapid heat-up phase after a cold start.
To deliver the desired responsive, smooth and fuel-efficient drivability, the Drive-E engine is teamed either with Volvo Cars’ new eight-speed automatic gearbox or an enhanced six-speed manual tuned for improved fuel economy. Versions with the automatic gearbox have paddles on the steering wheel for manual gear shifting when desired.
D2 version with CO2 emissions of 88 g/km
In addition there is the 2.0-litre D3 producing 150 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The 1.6-litre D2 diesel has 115 hp and 270 Nm of torque. The V40 Cross Country D2 with manual gearbox comes with CO2 emissions as low as 99 g/km - corresponding to fuel consumption of 3.8 l/100 km.
Hill Descent Control
To make altitude-changing adventures more comfortable for the driver, the V40 Cross Country also features Hill Descent Control on the T5 version with All Wheel Drive. The V40 Cross Country also has a practical Hill Hold function that makes starting in a hill easy.
SAFETY & SUPPORT
Park Assist Pilot - making parallel parking easy
The Park Assist Pilot makes parallel parking easy and precise by taking over and operating the steering wheel while the driver handles the gearbox and controls the car's speed.
Lane Keeping Aid - active help to stay on course
Lane Keeping Aid helps the driver stay in the lane. This feature applies extra steering torque to the steering column when the car gets close to a lane marking and is about to leave the lane. The system is active at speeds between 65 km/h and 200 km/h.
Enhanced Blind Spot Information System - for better visibility
The V40 Cross Country offers the enhanced Blind Sport Information System (BLIS), which is radar-based. The technology can now also monitor and alert the driver to rapidly approaching vehicles up to 70 m behind the car. Of course it still informs the driver about vehicles in the blind spots on both sides.
Cross Traffic Alert - covering your back
Cross Traffic Alert uses the radar sensors at the rear end of the car to alert the driver to crossing traffic from the sides when reversing out of a parking space. This is especially helpful in tight and crowded areas where the side view might be limited due to infrastructure, vegetation or other parked cars.
Road Sign Information - an extra "eye" on the traffic environment
Road Sign Information supports the driver by displaying road signs in the instrument display. Road Sign Information can be combined with the Speed Alert function, which provides the driver with a visual warning in the speedometer if the speed limit is exceeded.
Active High Beam - more relaxed driving in the dark
The Active High Beam technology in the Volvo V40 Cross Country helps the driver utilise high beam more efficiently. It offers automatic switching between high and low beam at the right moment.
Adaptive Cruise Control & Distance Alert - keeping the distance
The V40 Cross Country can be equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), which promotes comfortable driving by using radar to automatically maintain a set time gap to the car in front. The Queue Assist function on cars with automatic gearbox maintains the set gap all the way down to standstill.
Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection technology
New advanced software, including more rapid vision processing, has also made it possible to extend Volvo Cars' present detection and auto brake technology to cover certain cyclist situations as well.
The Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection with full auto brake is equipped with an advanced sensor system that scans the area ahead. If a cyclist heading in the same direction as the car suddenly swerves out in front of the car as it approaches from behind and collision is imminent, there is an instant warning and full braking power is applied.
The technology also detects if a pedestrian steps out into the road in front of the car. If the driver does not respond in time, the car can warn and automatically activate the brakes. The V40 can also detect, alert and automatically brake if the car risks colliding with another vehicle in front.
Pedestrian Airbag Technology - a world first
In order to mitigate the consequences if a collision with a pedestrian is unavoidable, the Volvo V40 is available with a Pedestrian Airbag, a world first.
Sensors in the front bumper register the physical contact between the car and the pedestrian. The rear end of the bonnet is released and at the same time elevated by the deploying airbag.
City Safety - active up to 50 km/h
The V40 Cross Country features the upgraded City Safety system. This system is active at speeds up to 50 km/h. The car automatically brakes if the driver fails to react in time when the vehicle in front slows down or stops - or if the car is approaching a stationary vehicle too fast.
Driver Alert Control - detecting and warning tired drivers
Driver Alert Control is designed to detect and warn tired drivers. The system can also cover other situations where the driver is distracted. Sensors register the car's movements. The control unit stores the information and calculates whether the driver risks losing control of the vehicle.
Volvo On Call combined with Bluetooth
The Volvo On Call system can be combined with the Bluetooth mobile phone service. The Bluetooth connection allows hands-free phone conversations as well as music streaming from a preferred Bluetooth enabled portable music player. Volvo is actually the only brand to offer Bluetooth music streaming throughout the entire vehicle range.
Keep in touch via mobile application
A mobile application that makes sure that the driver can stay in touch with the parked car via an iPhone or Android smart phone. The mobile application is an extension of Volvo On Call. Owners of all new models with Volvo On Call can download the application that opens up a range of connectivity possibilities. The mobile app is free and downloaded via the iPhone and Android application stores. The app is designed to offer the owner an intuitive, easy-to-use relationship with the car from a distance.
